  1. I am watching the Iowa/Penn State replay on ESPNU tonight and I noticed the crowd chanting the White Stripe's Seven Nation Army, just like OSU fans did against USC. Would I be correct in assuming that Happy Valley is "borrowing" this from Ohio Stadium? Any ideas?

Actually, Penn State picked it up before we did. Supposedly OSU began playing it last year, but I remember the chant during the 2007 edition of Ohio St-Penn St in Happy Valley. It's originally a soccer hooligan thing, so it's borrowed from overseas regardless.

  3. Interesting. Thanks for the insight. I knew chanting is more at home in soccer but I thought the WHite Stripes would be more indigenous to American football.

Well, the really interesting aspect is that The White Stripes hail from Detroit, Michigan and the Wolverines just began the chant as well this year. If you check the movement of the Elephant album, the album on which Seven Nation Army is on, they actually placed in a better billboard position in Belgium, Holland, France, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom than the United States. I think the band has a stronger following overseas.

At any rate, the only colleges known to instrument the song are Michigan (started this year), Penn State, Purdue (basketball), Ohio State... and St. John's (basketball).

Forgot to add, better chart movement was prevalent in Italy as well.

  7. What do you means by 07 nation Army. Is you are describing only the state of USA or telling about the NATO army. I think forum is a place where every nation person gather to discuss the problems of the World.
