There has been a lot of press about moving our game to October, rather than the tradition of playing 'The Game' at the end of the season..perhaps destroying the greatest rivalry in all of sports. What does Buckeye nation think about this?

Anyone else a tired of that cruddy, creepy looking Brutus that's everywhere right now...ugh, I thought the 90's Brutus was kinda bad, but the one they have now is downright embarrassing!

Found the coolest NEW BRUTUS design (which is licensed by the Ohio State University). See it at spazzmonkey.com

They have car magnets and signs -- no T's yet, hopefully soon

there's also really cool Woody Hayes and Jim Tressel signs/car magnets, too. Never seen anything like these.

Hi everyone,
My guess is that not everyone who reads this blog was able to cheer the Bucks on to victory in Pasadena yesterday. I'm sure many of you were huddled around TVs at friends' houses or bars near Ohio State. Some of those bars are like second homes to many of you... providing perfect venues for cheering on the Bucks when you can't actually be at the game.
If you are ever looking to pick up a unique commemorative poster to help you remember all of the good times you have had at the bars around OSU, look no further. BUCKEYEBARPOSTERS.com has the coolest poster for fans of Ohio State football and the bar scene around OSU.
Go to http://www.buckeyebarposters.com today to check it out. Whether you graduated years ago or are a current student or fan, you will appreciate this!
Happy New Years!

I must admit - as a Southern Californian it is amazing to see this invason of scarlet and grey gamewear. There doesn't see to be another team that I can think of in Rose Bowl history where the fans are so passionate about football. Even when Notre Dame fans come here, they at least shed their game gear to go to Disneyland or out to dinner. Not these Buckeyes! They probably have scarlet and grey boxers on too.

I looked at the weather in Columbus today and thought to myself -- My God, these fans are in a heatwave out here in SoCal and I am actually wearing a jacket. Then it occurred to me that there isn't much else to do out there right now but watch football and drink beer. I was joking with a riding friend of mine about having to winterize his motorcycle. That seems so sad to me!

Anyways -- glad you Buckeyes were able to beat those Ducks (now those are just plain strange fans altogether). But Men -- please stop wearing those goofy sandals when you come out here, for God sakes buy some flip flops!!

A video from this website that I put on Youtube has gotten enough views to the point where they want to advertise it. So I would be receiving money that I would want to donate entirely to Buckeye Commentary to help with their costs. Who can I contact about this?

I have always stood by the age old saying, "better safe than sorry", yet i can't but want a little more acton out of the Ohio State offense. I have often praised Tressel on his game strategy, but those games are starting to drag on a little long. What do you guys think? Go with the safe and boring offense or go with the more Oregon Ducks way of flashy yet sollid offense?

I couldn't agree more. Pryor has not held up to the hype. I thought that by his second year he would at least be able to throw a ball on target a little better. If Tressel wants to win the Rose Bowl then he better make sure pryor doesn't throw anything father than five yards. Pryor also seems to be a little of an upstart, I notice last Saturday that he threw a fit when tressel went for the safe call a punted on 4th and 3. I don't care if you want to look good for NFL scouts, you don't disrespect your coach.

I see where you are coming from, yet you seem to foret that tressel has lead the bucks to two national titles right after another. He has also lead us to victory over the acursed Wolverines five times in a row. HE plays boring, yet solid ball. Ohio STate is one of the college football greats and I'm not just saying that becasue I am a huge fn. Just look at their history before you go blabbing.

I received this post from reader and felt like it deserved posting. Enjoy:

Pryor has been depressingly bad this year as our leader. Despite the fact that he did enter OSU as a quarterback, we might remember his statements during the recruitment trail: he will play any position. In fact, his verbalized intent was to spend 3 years developing as a prospective NFL talent, and leave after his junior year. Right now, his draft-stock is plummeting. Let’s begin preparing him for his NFL goal, and cut our losses in the meantime.

We also have to recall that during high school at Jeanette, Pryor played both offensively AND defensively. In fact, here’s a quote about him from ESPN.com:

Defensively, Pryor covers so much ground from his safety position that he makes plays on the ball you wouldn't think he could make. He has a long wingspan, long legs and is a very fluid athlete. Ball skills are excellent, and he is also a tremendous leaper, as evidenced by his skills on the hard court. As a pass rusher, he will remind you of last year's Martez Wilson.

We also can’t rule out his role as a red-zone threat as a receiver. Recall his TD catch against Texas in the Fiesta Bowl:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrZYZktLdns

That catch makes you want to run to Staples and slap the “That was easy!” button about a hundred times. How is a 5’9 defensive back going to match up against a 6’6 Terrelle Pryor who runs at 4.3 speeds and jumps freakishly high? To be honest, his build and physique is most reminiscent of Calvin Johnson from Georgia Tech a couple years back:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvBUKqhT0FE&feature=fvst

Think an NFL team can’t find a use for a 6’6 receiver?

Top Ohio recruits now see the Bearcat program as the number one Ohio program and the school most drawing the attention of NFL scouts. They see Coach Kelly's Bearcat's as increasingly creative and versatile in leading his team to rankings previously attained only by OSU in the state. Will Cincy become the new home of the Buckeye Nation fan base abandoning an increasingly hard to watch Buckeye team? Will top players from the current floundering squad transfer to the Bearcats? The shift has started.

I downloaded a software program to my computer that allows me to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes and basically any other NCAA college football game online via live streaming feed. I use it because I'm at work (aargh..) a lot of times when the games are played, and there's no TV at work. I use it so much that I actually prefer to watch football over the Internet instead of on TV.

It's easy to operate and downloads very quickly. The only pc requirements are DSL or cable Internet and a windows operating system (sorry mac users), and it apparently works in any country.
Anyway, the website below will give you instant access.

Well, the really interesting aspect is that The White Stripes hail from Detroit, Michigan and the Wolverines just began the chant as well this year. If you check the movement of the Elephant album, the album on which Seven Nation Army is on, they actually placed in a better billboard position in Belgium, Holland, France, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom than the United States. I think the band has a stronger following overseas.

At any rate, the only colleges known to instrument the song are Michigan (started this year), Penn State, Purdue (basketball), Ohio State... and St. John's (basketball).

Interesting. Thanks for the insight. I knew chanting is more at home in soccer but I thought the WHite Stripes would be more indigenous to American football.

Actually, Penn State picked it up before we did. Supposedly OSU began playing it last year, but I remember the chant during the 2007 edition of Ohio St-Penn St in Happy Valley. It's originally a soccer hooligan thing, so it's borrowed from overseas regardless.

I am watching the Iowa/Penn State replay on ESPNU tonight and I noticed the crowd chanting the White Stripe's Seven Nation Army, just like OSU fans did against USC. Would I be correct in assuming that Happy Valley is "borrowing" this from Ohio Stadium? Any ideas?

Do any of you remember how tough the Huskies played you guys two years ago when Jake Locker was a freshman? Last year didn't count as he was hurt.

I surely do think the Huskies are back!

Now go win the rest of your games this year. I'm a Buckeye fan in your conference.

The Buckeyes have proven that are able to lose almost all significant non-conference games, and they have done it very successfully for the last 5 years. Tressel is now a millionaire several times over, and all he cares about is making an obscene salary until he wishes to retire. He is ridiculously overpaid. The Buckeyes football program is over hyped and also under delivers. Ohio State football is nothing more than a big business receiving and spending a lot of money that could be spent 10 times better educating students. And 90% of the students who play football, or other major sports, should be awarded a B.S. in Football, Tennis, Soccer, whatever when they graduate. As a state and a country, we will never be world class until we put our money and emphasis on talents other than throwing a football, kicking a ball, etc.

T.Pryor has not improved on his fundamentals of throwing the football at all since last year. Throwing off of his back foot, can not even throw an out pattern. Also mental mistakes like delay of game and grounding. He should be moved to receiver immediately if he does not want a 9-5 job in 3 years.

At this point I am actually hoping that USC runs the table. That's the only way the heat will get turned up to get rid of BCS. No way BCS wants to make the call to snub Texas again should they go undefeated and no way they want to deal with snubbing SC if they're undefeated, that's assuming Florida runs the table. I feel like we've been dooped for the past few years because with all the talk about USC's dominance over past 6-7 years, they haven't had to play upper tier teams like Florida, LSU or Alabama. I want to see SC match up against the "speed" from SEC. I think their offensive and defensive lines are overrated and would show against either of the top three SEC teams. But all this is a moot point, because SC will have a let down either next week at UW or against Cal or Oregon and BCS will get baled again. Hint: BCS wants Texas to run table to make up for last years shaft, and they can also showcase another two Heisman winner game between Tebow and this years winner Colt McCoy!

It's too easy to play armchair quarterback and second guess after it's all over, but this "big game" non-sense has become far too psychological. Because of past shortcomings, Tressel has allowed both sides of the ball to play "not to lose" as opposed to playing to win. Be realistic, we're Ohio State. Even going back to past years peerformances, it was about the other teams psychological make-up allowing them to dominate physically. Hats off to defense. They held longer than I expected. I feel that offensive play calling left the defense on the field too long and it showed in SC's last drive. Cmon, we started the second half holding them to three and out, got the ball at midfield and reciprocated three and out. Ridiculous. We should've put SC away before halftime, and Tressel oddly enough didn't play conservative when he should have and it let SC get a cheap field goal to end the half. I think his butt hole starts to get tight in these big games now. Last two points: he has to turn Pryor loose and let him take games over. Need to recruit from inside out i.e. more beasts on oline and dline. We will finish 10-2 with outside shot at rematch at SC in Rose(cringe!!)
